5/4

I will allow and encourage my students, in my history course, to use Wikipedia to grasp a basic understanding about the event or person which we are studying, so that students will be better prepared for class. All Wikipedia research for papers will need to be backed up by other resource, which students should do anyway to become well roundedly educated.

4/29

I choose DHMO.org, Dihydrogen Monoxide Research Division. The conclusion is that this site is silly! The process was using prior knowledge to determine what they are talking about, Water, and questioning their clams and intentions. The Site even says Factual information not implied on the site!

Something New About SmartBoard

A large thing that should be taken into consideration is the teacher’s enthusiasm dealing with SmartBoard. If the teachers are excited about the new technologies, then they will be more likely to want to use them and figure out how to use them. If the teacher wants to use the SmartBoard they will, if they do not or are overwhelmed by the procedures to use the SmartBoard then they won’t use it. There for, if the teachers aren’t excited about it, then neither will the students.

My view on SmartBoard

It worth the investment in classes that will uses this, such as math and science classes that have a use from them. I don't see a real use in a history class, which a projector can't do. I firmly believe that along with buying the Smartboards the state needs to give training and workshops for the Smartboards. If educators could be educated on the running, functions and possibilities of the SmartBoards then the investment will be more of a sound investment. But, I still do not believe it's a good idea or smart investment for the state to have one in every classroom. This will prove to be a waste of money and if there are no workshops, then it will be a waste of time and even more money. The state should have already started training and workshops if Smartboards have been installed in classrooms. I'm frustrated as a tax payer that they have not.
Another concern is having to buy programs to run for your classroom. A disection program will cost $300 a year, which is outragous.

Teachers and Smartboards

The Standard most exhibited for Teachers in the use of a Smartboard is Standard 3 a. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning, in which Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. But once again, there needs to be workshops and training to use these technologies. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, otherwise the technology becomes useless.

Standard 2 addressing working collectively and individually and 3 creating assignments by the use of research and individual higher level of thinking.

Day 19 Webquest

The best WebQuest we explored as a group was Unraveling the Underground Railroad. This WebQuest fit 3 of the 4 roles. This WebQuest promoted learning activities for all students to participate in, individually and as a group; everyone would have their share to do. This activity promoted higher levels of thinking, from research to empathizing and role-playing. Students would have to really apply themselves to complete this activity and would walk away with a higher understanding and greater knowledge of the subject and create feelings of empathy and sympathy. The tech of it was well done. The color was appropriate for the subject. Good use and amount of pictures. Sharing the roles by the use of pictures. Great amount of links for research, resources, and credits. Having the activity creating several points of view is a wonderful idea.

Day 13, Mar 2

Using Person Bookmarks in our web surfing lives is incredibly useful. It can help us keep track and manage the sites that we frequently use and information on the site, with some ease. It helps us manage the wide variety of sources and abundance of information that we receive and are subjected to in our lives. I am a big fan of Bookmarks and will continue to use them.

Hypermedia Slide Show Quiz

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Day 12 Feb 25

Today we used hyper media to create a Slide Quiz. I couldn’t tell you when I could incorporate this usually in a High School World History class. But the use of this activity would support the skill of Leadership & Responsibility, Guiding and Lead Others. Which, is to use interpersonal and problem-solving skills to influence and guide others toward a goal. Also, the goal of learning the subject matter, through creating these slide quizzes and taking the quizzes.

An Idea for the Future

I would like to use technology to create communication between my World History Class and foreign students, to ask students from the countries we are studying on input or something that is not commonly known about their country.

Getting Through, Digital Story

Oops, Day 8, Feb 11

One activity I have done which includes technology, is budgeting on Excel. I Love keeping my budget on an excel program, though I do need to figure the formulas much better. When I do that it will continue to prove useful. The ISTE Standard addressed is 3, a. model digital age work and demonstrate fluency in such technology.

Day 10, Feb 18th

We are working, in Multimedia Creations, on our Digital Story in photo story today. Photos that will illustrate the quote I have chosen. I think this is a great assignment to allow students to inteperet what they think certian quotes mean and allow them to reflect. Choosing photos to go along with the quotes allows creativity and interpretation. The ISTE Standard that I feel fits this project the best is 1.C. Promote students reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students conceptional understanding.

Day 9, Feb 16

I am now part of the you tube community. Today, we are using mutimedia creations, creating a Photo story and uploading it to You Tube. The ISTE Standard that is met is 1A: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity; promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.

Day 7, Tuesday 9, 2010

I remember taking a computer class in elementary. I hardly remember a thing actually. I would assume that they didn't make the class interesting or fun, which is was elementary students need. There was a clear lack of Standard 2. C, customize and personalize learning. But the class was trying to Promote and model Digital Citizenship and Responsability, Standard 4, C.

2/4 Day 6,Video Confrenceing

We skyped with 5th graders today. I hope they enjoyed it. Video confrences, Skyping, will and is useful in classrooms today, making other students, classrooms, and acadimia relavent to other students. We can now collaborate with other students from different schools to learn or to inform. These learning experiances will,in my belief, inspire students to ask questions and want to learn. Standard 1, a and c, promoting innovative thinking and reflection. 3, c, alsocommunicates relevant information using variety of digital media. I’m not sure what real purpose to use this in my history class, but I’d like to use it to inspire students to get involved in their own learning process.

Day 5, More Google Docs

Today concentrated on Google forms, Docs, and creating Graphs. These forms are going to be incredibly handy for teachers, quiz and tests are going to be easily created. The further functions of Google Docs are going to be wonderful for students in group projects, communication will be easy and fluent, while not having to worry about losing information or work. Graphs are always useful teaching tool, so I'm pleased to have been introduced to a site to create them. The ISTE Standards that are addressed from today’s activities are Standard 3, A, B, C, and D. Also Standard 2, A, with the sharing of documents on Google Docs.

Day 4 1/28

Today we joined facebook for classroom 2.0 discussion, as a social networking site and a discussion site. Being able to comment on current development and discuss ideas, old and new are characteristic of ISTE Standard 1 A, B, C, and D. Use knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
I would hope I would use this to get feedback on questions or techniques I wish to use in the classroom. As a facilitator, I would want feedback from more and less experienced educators and advise from others as well.

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

1/26

Today we joined Classroom 2.0. This activity contributes to a few of the ISTE Standards, such as 1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity, A and D. Which are promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness and model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments. And Standard 2, B, learning experience and assignments. And 5, A and C, which are participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of technology to improve student learning and evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning.
These are given by our access to classroom 2.0 and learning form other teachers learning experiences.
I will use this in inquiring on how to use technologies and what to use in the classroom

1/21

Today, we created a resume on google documents. Which help with 3rd standard, A, C, and D. Which are the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations, communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students using a variety of digital-age media and formats and model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools. Creating this resume is a really good idea. Now students have their resume accessable at any time they have acomputer. To be able to creat documents and save them to the internet with easy is going to make school and work much easier, since my computer crashed and I lose flash dives like ear rings. I am plese with the new discovery of internet documents that are easily accessable.

I'm not completly sure how I will use this as a history teacher, but i will recomend to students to type thier papers on these types of documents. Just to have them avalable and accessable when students have time to work on them, or when they need the document in a hurry. This could eliminate the problem of losing flash drives or papers.

First Day 1/19

The First day we created a blog and started setting the page up. I am under the belief that this activity works with the 3rd ISTE Standard, Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. The 3rd Standard exhibits teachers using knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society.
I would say that D, would be the more exhibited quality of this standard, which is, model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning.

Creating a blog for the first time opens me, as a student, to being able to collect research pages and relevant site to one page that I may access in one place. The use of linking relevant sites and commenting on our evaluation and analyze of the readings and other research found exhibits the use wonderfully.

I may use a blog for my History class, to encourage students to explore research and comment on questions and their own views and conclusions on subject matter.
